An endless pit of misery

Character  Stian Sætansen

Description

This is Stian (full name Stygian Stígandr Sætansen); a huge feline species named siderian. This drawing is highly inspired by the song 'Gateways' from Dimmu Borgir, particularly the part around 3.30 min (and 2.40) – www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0xZYm…

I imagine him in one of his nightmares...being chased by human hunters in a dark, snowy setting; first in a city like environment (still snowy and dark and surrounded by mountains). He’s wounded and tries to climb up a mountain- suddenly, when he’s nearly at the top he gets shot or hit by something and falls in an endless pit of darkness, fear and misery…

During his entire life he’s followed by nightmares, fear and rage caused by very bad experiences with humans. He surely suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. I will not go further in detail, because that is a too big spoiler for the next volume of my graphic novel series Reign of Siderians that will be about him actually. However, all people on DA that know Stian better may already be spoiled for the first volume that is named ‘Predator Control’.

It kinda reflects how I felt when I lived in the Netherlands, surrounded by nature destruction and people who didn't care at all... I still feel like it's an endless fight against nature destruction- sometimes. However, since I moved to Norway and learned more about human-wildlife interactions and conflicts (but also other environmental issues) - I got some hope...at least I could escape from the crowded country I lived in before. But still, Stian represents my inner frustration in a very extreme way.

More about him here: blackmystica.deviantart.com/ga… He’s got his own folder actually.
- Oh I actually forgot to draw his jewellery - will do that later if I don't forget it again.

Btw; the name Stian is not pronounced in the English way but in the Norwegian way (google translate on Norwegian pronounces it right) – like Ste (as Steve) - an (as ran, pronounced in the British way - oh and another example for the GoT fans: like the short 'a' as in 'Stark').

Art, character and species by me. Please don’t copy/use without my permission!
